Akara (Hausa: kosasi) is also known as acarajé in Portuguese-speaking communities and loosely translates to ‘bean cake(s)’ or ‘bean fritas.’ It can be served on its own or with ogi (akamu) or custard, agidi (eko), Nigerian (e.g., Agege) bread, etc. Ellesu provides ogi and custard as side-dishes.
